-A one liner that describes Dr.Sween's personality.

What is it that you love about psychology and what has it taught you about people in general?

Ah!! Since childhood, I have been appreciated being a good listener, empathetic and understanding silent emotions. And observing people behaviour and making right intuitions has been a natural trait. Always tried to find out behind the scene story before making any judgement about anyone's actions/ behaviours, thinking and feeling out of the box. Life gave me professional area to serve youth of a remote rural place right from scratch and thus personal, family and career counseling came in picture. Invested years in that and then drugs attacked Punjab severely and being an educationist & counselling professional, understood this, worked with drug deaddiction centres with the help.of Dr. KIRAN BEDI for 5 years and then mental health issues came.in lime light, so opted psychology as subject in late 40's and while serving people around the globe (online as well offline) earned doctorate degree in the age of 55. Still very curious to unlearn and relearn from younger generations and new platforms. Invested lot of time and money in learning new techniques from international professionals during covid times.About people, just can say, everyone is fighting their own inner battle and we need to be more kind and compassionate. Perfection and happiness are great myths.... Still achievable and show must go on.

What is your go-to tip for dealing with mental health struggles?

Take it easy and naturally as we take other day to day happenings. As we never ignore our body, attire, other people's reactions... So same we shouldn't ignore mind. We all need to mind our mind... That's enough. Right strategies at the right time is all time hit.

What's that one thing you consider to be your secret weapon/ your special tool?

I win trust and rapport building is my faute since ages, people just surrender and melt down when they reach in my safe space. They cry (even males) and vent out their emotions in very first meeting mostly and that's my aura - what others say. I have a series of potential questions (10) for first interaction & Being a story teller & author, I use many simple stories, motivational phrases anf personal life examples & experiences to make techniques easy to understand and adapt. I initiate with 5 A's (Awareness, Acceptance, Acknowledgement, Adaptation & Application). I have never bound myself in session wise rigid strategies. Rather I am very flexible and prefer to mould session content as per client's need, mindset and flow of their emotions.

What drives you when it comes to helping people help themselves?

My 5A's and defining therapy goals during mutual discussion with client & any family member as co-therapist are wonder tools. I have an agreement too but never needed to get it signed as accountability is always mutual in my cases. I make it very clear that we are going to work as a team where everyone needs to contribute 100% (me as professional help, family to maintain supportive environment plus monitoring tasks and client's adaptation and application of techniques & given tasks)
